For dating over 40, that shapes everything: a constant flow of adults arriving mid-life and rebuilding social circles from scratch, a huge population of military retirees settling permanently in their forties (twenty years in, second career starting), and a culture where "I'm new here" and "I'm starting over" are the two most ordinary sentences in town. The districts, honestly
The Pearl is, flatly, the best first-meeting district in Texas: the restored brewery grounds hold coffee, a food hall, riverside lawns, weekend farmers markets, and restaurant rooms from casual to earned-it — staffed, public, walkable, exits everywhere, gorgeous in daylight. If the Pearl didn't exist we'd have had to invent it. Alamo Heights and Olmos Park are the established quarter — the '09 zip's coffee and wine rooms in the conversational register. Southtown and the King William District supply the arts crowd: First Friday, galleries, historic-district strolls. Stone Oak and the far north side hold the metro's big suburban 40+ pool. And the River Walk downtown belongs to conventions and out-of-town cousins — locals use the quieter Museum Reach stretch, which conveniently ends at the Pearl.
First meetings, the San Antonio way

The local canon barely needs a list because the answer keeps being the Pearl: coffee at the Pearl, the Museum Reach river stroll ending in the food hall, the weekend farmers market for the most zero-stakes look in town. Summer note: June through September runs hot enough that mornings and river-shade are the season's format — which suits the coffee-first doctrine, as usual.
